An Illumination on the Purpose of Hands
{ 1994 } Installation — made of wooden boxes, a wooden breadbox, white fabric, trophy nike, 2 antique photographs, a rearview mirros and a tiny light

From across a room, the photograph of a woman holding a flower would hopefully attract a gallerygoer to approach the 'Illumination' to look closer and examine the details of the installation. The golden trophy nike figure was roughly visible from about 6 feet. Once the viewer was 'face-to-face' with the installation, looking directly into the breadbox, he or she could see the antique photograph of a beggars hands reaching into the rearview mirror, establishing a visual loop to represent 'give' and 'take'. The white fabric and 'lit' up breadbox interior was meant to suggest heavenly or celestial implications associated with the winged nike.
